Hear me out!
This does not sound good, or at least I didn’t think so. It took poor planning on my part to get me to try this. I had not assessed the amount of food I’d need for a trip correctly, but I had a shoved in a full tub of peanut butter. As I didn’t want to end up with nothing but a jar of peanut butter to get me through the last day, I just started adding it to the rest of my meals. The picture above is from that trip.
I can only fairly compare this discovery to that of penicillin. The fatty cheese, the dense peanut butter, the carb filled bread… a high calorie, high protein, tasty meal.
Cheese
For this meal I’m not talking soft spreadable cheese. I’m talking hard cheese, something like cheddar. Of course cheese doesn’t last forever. Pick a cheese that will last as long as you can/need. I often take sliced because it’s just easier.
Peanut Butter
I’m not a peanut butter expert. I just use whatever I have available. Salted/unsalted, both are tasty in this meal.
Base
This is an amazing sandwich filling. If you’re going on a day/overnight hike you can use bread. If it’s a bit longer and you don’t want your food going moldy, wraps or even crackers work fine.
