I’m Tia.

I’m a 29 year old engineer, based in Edinburgh. I wanted to start this page to collect together all the resources I’ve used when planning trips, plus add a few of my own experiences.

At 18, I moved to Sydney, from England and lived there for 6 years. I’ve always been lucky enough to do a lot of travelling, but it was there I fell in love with the bush. After completing the Larapinta trail solo in 2015, I took any opportunity to get out of the city with my backpack.

My favourite thing about hiking is, you don’t have to be the best/fittest to give it a shot and still have a fantastic time. I’m also keen on bike touring/climbing/canyoning, pretty much any excuse to chow down on some delicious instant mash in the great outdoors.

In 2018, I quit my job moved out of my share house in Sydney and headed back to the UK. On the way, I stopped in the US and hiked the Pacific Crest Trail, then Nepal to hike the Annapurna Circuit and finally in Spain to practice my Spanish and carb load. It took me just over 9 months, with 6 months off solid hiking. I kept pretty regular hiking blogs during that time. PCT Blog, Annapurna Blog.

Anyway, for now I’m back in the UK, back at my desk, trying to figure out where the wildest parts of the UK are and how to get to them (on the weekends…).

I’d love to hear from anyone with any ideas, questions or who’s keen for a hike.

Tia
