Overland Route

We planned to do it in 6 days, but allowed 7 days as Mum wasn’t such what to expect and we didn’t want to rush.

Everything went to plan and we only needed the 6 days to get to Narcissus Hut, where we were going to catch the ferry over to Cynthia Bay. As we had the extra day we continued to Echo Point Hut and walked out the last section.

All three of us really enjoyed this leg of the trip. The hut only supported 6 people (there were 5 of us). I went for a swim in the lake. The route was a little tricky because high winds had come through and knocked down some trees, but nothing a little sense of direction couldn’t figure out.

We didn’t do the Barn Bluff or Cradle Mountain side trips are is was poor visibility the days we were there and it didn’t seem worth it. Dad and I went up Mt Ossa on a beautiful sunny day with another girl we’d met on route (Mum did a little solo walk to the next hut). It was remarkable and would highly recommend if the weather is good.

The hardest part of this trip was the transport. I wish I could have figured it all out and could tell you now but the Buses from Launceston leave everyday ~8.30am depending on the company/day. Arriving at midday. However you can only get a bus back from Lake St Claire on some days at some times. Here’s a link to Tassielink’s website. If anyone has any better information on this I’d be interested to know.

We ended up get a very kind friend of mine to pick us up.
